Lighthouses structures, usually with a tower, built onshore or on the seabed to serve as an aid to sailors warning of hazards, helping them establish their position, and guiding them to their destinations. Sometimes, sailors missed the signs, but they were still there.

Most of the time, at best, life can be a rollercoaster ride.  Even when you’re in control, something will suddenly change, and that ride gets a little crazier than you expected. It’s easy to just lower your shoulder and power through, but sometimes even that isn’t enough.  Reaching out for help can be one of the most courageous things you will ever do.

About Me

Welcome to Lighthouse Counseling! My name is Dr. Marcia A. Cooke, and I am a licensed professional with over 15 years of experience in mental health therapy and counseling. I earned my Doctor of Psychology in Marital and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego, in 2008. Additionally, I hold a Master of Arts in Human Behavior from National University in San Diego.

In addition to my education, I have specialized training in Military and Veteran Behavioral Health, achieved through the Widener University Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology. This allows me to bring a unique understanding of the challenges faced by active duty military veterans and their families to my practice.

Throughout my career, I have worked in various clinical settings, including Community Mental Health, where I spent nine years supporting individuals and families facing a wide range of emotional and psychological issues. I transitioned to working with active-duty military members, helping service members and their families cope with the stresses of military life. I also worked with Native youth in a residential treatment settings, providing culturally sensitive care and support. In my most recent role, I focused on assisting active-duty service members, spouses, and families with the stresses inherent in their duty & sacrifice

I am licensed to provide services in Nevada, California, Oregon, and South Carolina, offering comprehensive mental health therapy for individuals, couples, and families in these regions.

My Philosophy

At Lighthouse Counseling, my approach to therapy is rooted in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). This evidence-based therapeutic model emphasizes collaboration and problem-solving, rather than instructing clients on what to do. I believe in the innate resilience of each individual and family and that everyone possesses the inner strength to overcome life's challenges.

One of the key principles of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is the Miracle Question—a tool used to help clients visualize what their life would look like if their challenges were resolved. This technique encourages you to focus on the desired outcome and gain clarity on the steps needed to achieve it.

I believe that you already have many of the answers to your problems within you; sometimes, all it takes is a compassionate, non-judgmental therapist to help you uncover them. My role is to listen, support, and guide you as you discover the path forward. Together, we will work to help you find clarity, build resilience, and create meaningful change in your life.

Whether you're struggling with relationship issues, family dynamics, trauma, or life transitions, I am here to help you achieve your goals and live a fulfilling life. Let's work together to unlock your potential and overcome obstacles with confidence.
